What do people think about immigration?

Immigration is a major political issue in most countries. Therefore if you are thinking of immigrating you are going to want to know how people in your intended destination feel about immigrants, it will have a major impact on your life. Opinions tend to vary from country to country and even within countries.

What most people think about immigration is largely going to be determined by your perspective. In general the people who have immigrated themselves or who are the children of people who have tend to be very positive about it. They usually feel that immigration has provided them with opportunities that they could not have gotten at home and that they have been a valuable addition to their new countries. As a result they usually recommend that other people who are considering immigrating do so and that countries should have fairly liberal policies when it comes to immigration.

The opinions of the people who have lived in a country of generations when it comes to immigration are much more varied. There are a lot of them who think that immigration is a good thing. They believe that immigrants are a valuable addition to the country since they add cultural diversity and make the country a better place. That being said this is a belief that is far from universally shared. In general the people who think this are the ones with stable careers who do not have to worry about finding a new job.

The people who are not as financially stable tend to be the ones who have a negative opinion about immigration. They tend to believe that if immigrants are allowed into the country it will make it harder for them to find a job. In most cases this is not actually true but the perception does exist. Therefore in large part the general tenor of the feeling towards immigration in a country will tend to vary as the economy does. When the economy is in good shape and jobs are easy to find there is a lot more support for immigration than when the economy is weak and jobs are hard to come by.

Another issue that is causing some people to take a negative view of immigrants is the feeling that the country is losing its identity. This is mainly the case in countries that have allowed a lot of immigrants, particularly when the immigrants don't make an effort to adapt to the new country. Some countries expect new immigrants to adapt to the lifestyle in their new country more than other countries do. The result is that in some countries there is a large expat population who tend to live just like they did in their old country. These are the places where the feeling of losing the national identity is most common.
