Immigration regulations: how do most countries avoid too much immigration?
There are a lot of people who want to move to another country; unfortunately most of them want to move to the same countries. The result is that it is necessary to restrict the number of people who are able to immigrate. There are a variety of ways that this is done but most countries use largely the same criteria for determining who will get in.
The first thing that most countries do in order to avoid too much immigration is that they put a quota on the number of immigrant visas that will be issued. This will limit the number of people who are allowed to move to the country each year. In addition the visas are usually divided up into different categories that have different requirements to qualify. This is done to make sure that there are not too many immigrants coming over looking for the same jobs. The visas are usually divided by job skills so that there will be a variety of different skills amongst immigrants.
Because of the quota that most countries place on the number of immigrants that are able to get visas there are a lot more applicants than there are visas available. This means that there has to be a way to determine who is going to get them. This is usually done by setting a series of qualifications that have to be met in order to qualify. Even then there are often a lot more qualified applicants than there are visas so it is a good idea to apply early in the year when the most visas are available.
A lot of countries are starting to go to a points test to make sure that they get the most qualified immigrants. The test works by giving out points for education, work experience, language skills and a variety of other things that are considered to be necessary to do well in your new country. There is usually a minimum score that must be met in order to qualify. If there are more qualified applicants than visas available the people with highest score on the points test will be the ones who get the visa.
If you look at the points test you will notice that far and away the most important factors in determining who gets in are education, work experience and language skills. This is true even of the countries that do not use the test. Therefore if you want to immigrate you will have the best chance if you are well educated and have experience in an in demand field and you are able to speak the language. If you don't have these skills you will find it difficult to immigrate. Therefore it is a good idea to start working on these things if you are thinking about moving to another country.
